The Institute of Political Science at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (FSU) in Germany and the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla-Academy” (NaUKMA) in Ukraine, in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), welcomes applications for the Joint Master’s Degree Programme in Political Science with a Specialisation on German and European Studies.

About the Programme

For the academic year 2021/2022, the Joint Master’s Programme in Political Science with a Specialisation on German and European Studies is calling for the 16th time for applications from students in their 4th year of university studies or older.

For the best students, the two-year full-time social science programme includes a fully financed five-month study and research visit to the Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Thuringia, Germany.

Successful students will receive two internationally recognised Master’s degree from NaUKMA and Jena University. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) financially supports the programme.

About fifty percent of the teaching in the two-year master’s programme is held in German, other classes require English and Ukrainian knowledge. Participants will receive a comprehensive overview of the political systems of Germany and the European Union as well as about the economic and legal affairs of contemporary Germany and the EU.

Who can apply?

All Ukrainian holders of a bachelor’s degree or higher may apply. Applicants should have intermediate or advanced knowledge of both German (A2 or higher) and English (B2 or higher). Your German and English skills may be further polished up by special language classes and TestDaF preparation (German test for universities) in the first year of your studies, before the mobility to Jena. Strong interest in contemporary German and European affairs is an asset. We also encourage non-Ukrainian and post-graduate (already holding an MA degree) applicants to apply for our programme and participate, if successful, on a contractual basis.

How to apply?

Applicants must pass through the regular enrolment procedure at NaUKMA which includes an entrance examination (English, Ukrainian, two Political Science exams).

You may have learned German at a private language institute, at school, abroad during a study trip or at any other place. After passing regular application procedure, there will be a qualitative interview with our MA programme staff to test language and subject-related knowledge.

After a successful application, NaUKMA will decide on possible awards for study scholarships for outstanding applicants. Applicants, who do not receive a study scholarship, can also enter our program on a contractual basis.
